Data analysis of aftermarket information usage patterns

This master thesis is hosted by Aftermarket Information Production (AIP) at Group IT, Volvo Group. AIP is responsible for the development and maintenance of applications in the service information and spare part areas.
Background
First hand data from customers is a key asset for companies in order to improve businesses and increase the understanding of product and service usage. Volvo Group has with its constant interactions with customer through connected products and other touchpoints, the ability to collect large volumes of direct end user data. However, a challenge is how to identify the best way to fully utilize the potential of the collected data from a broad organizational perspective.
The information managed in the AIP applications is used in workshops all over the world for service and repairs of trucks and busses. During the last years, data corresponding to what, when and where this information is used, has been collected. Analysis of the data can enable identification of opportunities for increased efficiency and quality in AIP information.
Description of thesis work
The ambition of the thesis would be to understand the usage of published service information. The scope and expected outcome of the thesis is to:
  • Investigate the relation between the quality of the service information and usage patterns
  • Understand current and future needs of service information from the user way of working
  • Suggest long term analysis process for continuous data collection
  • Suitable background and profile: Students in the areas of Computer science, Data science or Statistics with an interest in understanding user workflows and processes related to automotive aftermarket
